	Ultrasonic Tips for Removal of Material:
		The use of a technique, described by Dr. Gary Carr of the Pacific Endodontic Research Foundation, suggests the use of specially designed ultrasonic tips (EIE, Orange County, CA) that facilitates the removal of many of these separated instruments. With the aid of the SOM, many of these cases can be successfully retreated.
		Split canals found at the mid portion of the distal root of a lower molar.
	Surgical endodontic procedures have been performed up until now without proper magnification and lighting. With the SOM the surgical site can be visualized and treated with exacting precision. Irregularly shaped and poorly obturated canals, assessing the quality of the apical seal, as well as intracanal isthmus communications can now be visualized and predictably treated.
